I can't believe that I haven't posted about this yet....but after all, I haven't been exactly up to date with my postings lately! For those of you that don't know, we bought a house down in the Historic District of Macon....down by Mercer University downtown. And no, not for another investment property, but for us to live in. The house was built in 1880 or so and was burnt in a fire about 6 years or so ago.
Downtown Macon has really started to make a dramatic turn, for the good, in the last 5 years....mostly due to Mercer University. Check out www.collegehillmacon.com if you are interested. We'll be within walking distance to Mercer Village, the new football stadium for the Mercer Bears, and most importantly for us.....Alexander II Magnet School. We can see the school from our front porch and it will be great to be able to walk the kids to school.
We bought the house in April and renovations have been slow but we'll start to pick up steam here soon since Doug is now finished with the apartments. The roof is on, demo is just about complete, and electrical, plumbing, and HVAC is start within 2 weeks! We hope to be complete by next summer before Sam starts kindergarten!
The pictures I'm posting are of the place right after we bought it and the final picture is of the new roof!
This is a life journal of our comings and goings here in Georgia for our family and friends.

Finally finished!!
After four years, 5 houses, 15 apartments total.....we are finished!! Doug finally renovated our last apartment. He sits here with the kids on the front porch swing of the last house....whew! Somehow I don't think we'll stop here though......but Doug needs some recovery time :) This particular house was built in 1900. We knocked out a wall to allow for an open kitchen. It's awesome and it took about 2 seconds to rent it.

Summer fun by the pool
We've had a pretty lazy summer so far this year. Mostly hanging by the pool and grilling out with friends. Sam had vacation bible school the last two weeks and he loved it. The kids are both really comfortable in the pool now and Sam can even touch the bottom of the shallow end! How time is flying! Paige now loves to hang on to her ring and kick herself across the pool.

The balloon glow
Granddaddy and Gramma came to visit over Cherry Blossom and one of the most exciting events is the balloon glow out at Macon State College. There were bouncy houses for the kids, food, and giant balloons that they light up at dusk. We met several our friends and their kids for a picnic dinner and watched the balloons...it was great. I have Mary's husband, Steve, to thank for the pictures!
Cherry Blossom Time
The Cherry Blossom Festival is something that Macon looks forward to every year. It lasts for 10 days and it really is 10 days of fun. Balloon glows, rides, food, music, and arts and crafts galore! Of course, the highlight for Sam is the fair with the rides, animals, and food. We met some of our friends there.....a couple of Sams' girl friends....Mia and Maran. Paige had a good time as well, watching her big brother, and eating suckers all day to keep her in the stroller for the most part.

Walking down by the river
DD came to visit and we decided to go for a walk down by the river by our house. Three lots behind our house just sold and the owners have finally cleared out the land and made a road. We walked back there to take a look and the kids had a great time!
Watching Curious George
Sam's all time favorite is Curious George and he likes to sit in his "Sam" chair to watch it. He actually was feeling generous and decided to share his chair with Paige one morning. These kids are getting big fast!!
Beautiful days....
Our winter has been incredibly mild this year.....I've enjoyed it but it does make me concerned for the summer we may have in our future. It's been nice being able to go to the park in short sleeves! We went over to Sam's best buddy's (Brody) park one afternoon. The boys had a good time with chalk....as you can see! Paige has become quite the dare devil. She has no fear of climbing to the top of the jungle gym and going down the tallest slide. She also has developed a little....well, big, attitude for such a little gal. She thinks that she's the same size and age as the big boys that she is hanging with and will let them know it!
